New Metro Line To be Built in Istanbul

A new metro line is being planned to be built in Istanbul this year. The metro line will connect two continents and one end of Istanbul to the other, from Beylikdüzü to Pendik.

The entire trip should be covered in less than an hour, as the speed of the train will reach 70-80 kilometers per hour.

A tender will be held this year in order for the execution of the new metro line which stretches across a distance of 72 kilometers to take place. The metro line will be called Hizray.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) held the "Great Move in Rail Systems" meeting. Speaking at the meeting held at the Haliç Congress Center, IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlu said "The main backbone of Istanbul's public transport system must be rail systems" .

"The Transport and Infrastructure Ministry, will expand Istanbul's rail network by 91.5 kilometers this year which means we will have covered a length of 424.85 kilometers. Between 2024 and 2029 with new metro line projects being prepared our total network will increase to 622.15 kilometers" he added.

İmamoğlu said that there will be a tender for the Beylikdüzü - Esenyurt - Sefaköy - İncirli metro line this year.

In addition, the Rumeli Hisarı-Aşiyan funicular line will be opened this year and two new funicular lines will be built between ITU - İstinye, and Altunizade - Beylerbeyi.
