Murat Korum, the environment minister, made the following statement about the park being built at the site of the Ataturk Airport. He mentioned, “We have transported all the equipment from Ataturk Airport to Istanbul Airport, which is the largest airport in the world." We will create a sizable, comprehensive park with an area of 14 million square meters of green space. We will continue to strive to make this park a large green lung for the entire city of Istanbul, and it will be a tourism park with beautiful views of the Marmara Sea in addition to walking pathways, cycling and family spaces, cafés, and different public services”. Moreover, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the president of Turkey, also declared that the airport would be converted into a public park that would be roughly three times the size of Central Park in New York City. In his announcement, the president stressed that: We started with a project to create at least one large park in each of our 81 states, and it will not depend on state centers; it will include provinces, cities, and towns.
